OpenClaw—the open-source AI agent that went from zero to 145,000 GitHub stars in two weeks—is now causing panic in corporate IT departments. And unlike most viral tech trends, the security teams aren't overreacting.

What IT Departments Are Seeing

Here's what's happening in real companies right now:

Scenario 1: The "Helpful" Employee

  • A developer installs OpenClaw on their work laptop to "automate boring tasks"
  • They give it access to Slack, Gmail, Google Calendar, and internal wikis
  • OpenClaw runs with full system-level permissions and starts reading everything
